Has your radiator reservoir tank split and needs to be replaced? Then Pentagon Motorist Centre in Chatham near Rochester in Medway is the garage to use.
When the coolant in the engine heats up it expands, the pressure in the closed system must increase and allows the coolant to flow into the expansion bottle or reservoir tank. The radiators reservoir tank or bottle collects excess coolant from the radiator so that the coolant does not leak to the atmosphere.
This is known as a sealed or closed coolant system and the main benefit is that the coolant is not weakened through constant topping up. This helps to avoid having to replace antifreeze on an annual basis.
Coolant overflow ceases when the thermostat modulates the rate of cooling to keep the temperature of the coolant at optimum. When the engine coolant cools as conditions change or when the engine is switched off, the fluid contracts and is returned to the radiator through the cap.
